Cake Talk by Irene Tamborra

The catastrophic collapse of massive stars and the merger of neutron stars are driven by fundamental physics on microscopic scales. Yet, because of the intrinsic challenges linked to the coupling of physics occurring on very different characteristic scales, approximations are employed in large-scale (magneto-)hydrodynamical simulations. In this talk, progress in our understanding of the role of particle transport on the stellar dynamics, synthesis of the elements heavier than iron, and multi-messenger observables will be presented.
