In this talk, I’ll explore the transition from academia to data science, emphasizing the practical relevance of skills acquired during a PhD in non-academic contexts. As a data engineer at the Centre for Humanitarian Data, I’ll delve into the Centre’s role as a global hub for humanitarian data, underscoring the commitment to providing accessible services to users. Additionally, I’ll discuss the work of the Data Science team, who’s focus is on increasing the adoption of predictive models in the sector, in order to facilitate improved decision-making by humanitarian actors.
